While the 2006 Chateauneuf du Pape Cuvee Reserve has never been my favorite vintage from Laurence, it nevertheless showed nicely on this occasion with classic Pegau notes of tapenade, garrigue and spiced meats flowing to a medium to full-bodied, supple, sexy wine that will continue to evolve gracefully for another decade.

Inky violet. Ripe blackberry and candied cherry on the nose, with lively minerality and fresh flowers adding complexity. Juicy red and dark berry flavors are impressively deep but lively, with silky tannins adding grip. Becomes creamier and lusher with air, finishing sweet, broad and very long. The blend, according to Laurence Feraud, is about 86% grenache, 9% syrah and the rest others.

Barrel Sample - Grenache from small barrel - This was surprisingly soft, fruity and forward showing medium cherry fruit and spice notes on the nose with a medium bodied palate and noticeable acidity. Very young tasting.
