The 1997 Le Vigne is edged by the 1997 Barolo Cannubi Boschis that follows. Ample and incredibly inviting, the 1997 Cannubi Boschis is a wine of total sensuality. An exotic mélange of dark cherry, plum, leather and spice melds into the super-expressive finish. All of a sudden the conversation stops at the dinner table. That is what great wines can do. (AG)

Luciano Sandrone's 1997 Barolo Cannubi Boschis wasn't too far behind. It, too, was epic. Seamless and impeccable from start to finish, the 1997 boasted endless layers of fruit and extraordinary harmony. It was one of the very finest wines I have ever tasted from Luciano Sandrone, and I have never been enamored with the 1997 vintage. Needless to say, I am quite happy that I bought a few bottles back when the wine was first released.

The 1997 is rich and alcoholic on the nose, displaying aromas of very sweet fruit with a slightly evolved character. It is super-rich and concentrated on the palate, offering intense sweet fruit and mineral flavors, but with notable balance for the vintage, closing with a final lingering note of sweetness. This is drinking well now and should last at least another ten years.

Crimson. Very flattering, heady nose. A voluptuous wine that could surely not fail to please all tasters but it is difficult to see how it will last very long as the tannins were almost impossible to discern under the exciting layers of fruit and oak. (JR)
