Score 93/100 · Drink 2000-2008, Pierre Rovani, Jun 2000

Produced from 22 hectoliter per hectare yields, the medium to dark ruby-colored 1998 Charmes-Chambertin displays massive amounts of red and black fruit aromas. Medium to full-bodied and chewy-textured, it coats the palate with blackberries, black cherries, and cassis liqueur. This intense, concentrated, and velvety-textured wine has firm tannins that are immersed in sweet, well-ripened fruit. Drink it over the next 8 years. Importer: Robert Kacher Selections, Washington, DC; (202) 832-9083.
