Score 93/100 · Drink 2014-2021, Jeb Dunnuck, Wine Advocate, Aug 2014

Similarly styled (to the 2012 Nemesis), with its sweet berry fruit, bramble, licorice and hints of tar, the 2012 Problem Child is another seamless, sexy blend from Matt that dishes out tons of sweet fruit while staying fresh and lively. Made from 74% Zinfandel, 14% Syrah and 12% Mourvedre, this full-bodied, fruit-forward effort can be consumed anytime over the coming 5-7 years. I had a fantastic tasting with owner/winemaker Matt Trevisan, and to my palate, this estate is at the top of their game. The wines have incredible purity across the board, and while they pack serious flavor and depth, they never seem heavy, over-the-top or cumbersome in the least. You can't go wrong with any of these. The 2012 Problem Child is terrific. Dark red cherry, plum, leather, menthol and cloves flesh out in a beautifully layered, voluptuous wine endowed with superb depth and class. Intense, but with no excess weight or sense of heaviness, the 2012 delivers tons of flavor. Sweet floral notes add brightness on the finish. Zinfandel is much more expressive in Problem Child than it is in Outsider, Linne Calodo's other Zinfandel-based blend. In 2012, Problem Child is 73% Zinfandel, 20% Syrah and 8% Mourvèdre
