The dark red 2021 Pinot Noir Freedom Hill Vineyard Dijon 115 Clone is ripe with toasty spice, wild forest herbs, preserved cherry, and pine sap. Full-bodied, it’s spicy on the palate, with notes of black pepper and ripe tannins that expand on the palate, with gripping texture and a hint of turned soil. It’s going to need time but can stand up to grilled meat. Drink 2025-2035.

In a newly approved AVA, Mt Pisgah, Polk County, Oregon – too complex to use in future! Freedom Hill Vineyard is Patricia Green’s biggest fruit source (they get 16 of the 90 acres currently planted here). Planted 1982 originally, by the Dusschees. Bellpine soil – dense soil of marine origin. Dense crimson. Owner-winemaker Jim Anderson is a big fan of his 2021s. Lots of chew on the end. The opposite of sweet! But lots of reverberant fruit. Edgy. (JR)
