Tasting notes
Always one of my favorite Syrahs from Murray, the 2018 Syrah Watch Hill Vineyard comes from a cooler site outside of Los Alamos and includes 5% Viognier, 15% whole clusters, and spent 18 months in 15% new French oak. Classic notes of ripe blackberries, smoked herbs, violets, ground pepper, and bacon fat all emerge from the glass of this medium to full-bodied red. With a wonderful sense of purity and elegance, moderate tannins, and a great finish, drink this beautiful wine any time over the coming 7-8 years. Consistently outstanding wines emerge from Andrew Murray, who pulls from sites throughout the Central Coast, most being estate vineyards. Almost all terrific values, Murray's wines generally show fresh, elegant characters while still holding true to California ripe, sunny fruit.

The 2018 Syrah Watch Hill Vineyard is dark and brooding in the glass. Graphite, lavender, sage, menthol, licorice and a core of inky dark fruit give the Watch Hill its distinctly sepia-toned, savory/earthy personality. The 2018 is super-expressive today, but will be even better in a few years' time.
