Tasting notes
Another Sta. Rita Hills release, the 2020 Pinot Noir La Encantada Vineyard is terrific, with a bright nose of raspberries, spring flowers, spice, and some classic salty, mineral-like nuances. It's balanced, medium-bodied, has pure tannins, and a terrific level of purity and precision on both the nose and palate. I surprisingly found a few of these latest Pinot Noirs from Foxen to be muddled and overtly earthy. Nevertheless, it’s big lineup of wines and there’s lot to like and choose from.

The 2020 Pinot Noir La Encantada Vineyard feels quite strongly marked by heat. I was not at all surprised to learn it was picked after the Labor Day heat spikes. Sweet, dried cherry fruit, leather, tobacco, spice and mint are all laced together. The 2020 is attractive, even if a bit of freshness is missing.
