Tasting notes
My favorite of the two clonal selections, the 2021 Cabernet Sauvignon Clone 4 is all varietal and comes from more gravelly soils on the northern edge of the estate in Stags Leap. Possessing gorgeous Bordeaux-like notes of ripe currants, freshly sharpened pencil, new leather, and smoky, gravelly earth, this beauty would give a great Pessac a run for its money. Medium to full-bodied, with gorgeous tannins, and a layered, seamless, incredibly impressive style, it needs 4-5 years of bottle age (I love it even today) and will shine for a solid two decades. This is a brilliant, elegant, complex, concentrated wine worth seeking out.

The 2021 Cabernet Sauvignon Clone 4 offers striking balance, marrying elements of richness and tension. Black fruit, gravel, incense, dried herbs, licorice and earthy notes run all the way through. This block on the valley floor is strongly marked by the presence of a shallow hardpan, which stresses the fruit. That is exactly what comes through in this wonderfully complete, engaging Cabernet.
The 2021 Cabernet Sauvignon Clone 4 is once again quite impressive in the way it marries power and energy. Ripe dark cherry, plum, blood orange, spice, mint and white pepper all meld together. The fruit profile tends towards the redder end of the spectrum, while floral accents lend brightness. This is very nicely done.
