After the misfiring Les Clos, the 2014 Chablis Grand Cru Vaudesir restores order with an excellent showing. Matured 25% in oak barrel and the remainder in stainless steel, it has a refined, almost understated bouquet, but that should not deter you from admiring its precision and focus. There is fine mineralité here, but it will require a few years to be unlocked. The palate is well balanced with crisp acidity, fine tension and weight in the mouth, with a touch of spice developing towards the finish that lingers in the mouth. Give this 3-4 years and you will have a well-crafted Vaudésir.

Lime, lemon – sharp fruit but with a leesy flesh that counterbalances beautifully. Excellent stuff. (RH)
(25% fût ): Pale yellow-green. Cool, minty aromas of white grapefruit and lemon drop. Densely packed, rich and deep but light on its feet, offering a lovely combination of white fruits and minerals complicated by menthol and licorice. Still, this very dry wine is a bit less pliant and expressive in the mouth than the Clos.
Ripe yellow stone fruits, almond and acacia flower on the nose, plus a hint of exotic fruits. Large-scaled, rich and broad but given shape by lovely mineral-driven acidity. The wine's classic dryness and notes of menthol and almond make it quite backward today and currently overshadow the fruit, and yet this wine already has more sex appeal than the Clos. Finishes broad, powerful and long, with a slightly tannic character.
About the producer
Although the Bichot family settled in the region in 1350, Albert Bichot was founded in 1831 by Bernard Bichot. Today the producer is one of Burgundy’s most respected, making wines from both its own vineyards and with purchased fruit.
