Score 97/100 · Drink 2024-2044, Jeb Dunnuck, Jan 2020

Coming from a tiny block of the estate vineyard, the 2017 Cabernet Sauvignon Stone Place is all Cabernet and spent 22 months in 90% new French oak. It offers a Bordeaux-like vibe and structure as well as beautiful notes of black fruits, cassis, graphite, and cedar pencil. This is a beautiful, serious, backward yet incredibly promising Cabernet that’s up with the top wines in the vintage. It offers some upfront charm due to its purity of fruit and elegance, yet it’s going to benefit from 4-5 years of bottle age and keep for 20-25 years or more.

The 2017 Cabernet Sauvignon Estate Stone Place is made of 100% Cabernet Sauvignon from the Crocker And Starr Estate vineyard. It fermented in small lots and aged 20 months in 90% new French oak. Deep garnet-purple colored, it is a little closed, offering up notes of warm cassis, blackberry coulis and wild blueberries with touches of cedar chest, tobacco and bay leaves. Medium to full-bodied, the palate has bright, firm, crunchy fruit with a solid foundation of ripe tannins and an invigorating finish. 453 cases produced.
