Tasting notes
24 varieties. Planted in the 1880s. Organically farmed (not certified). Deep, inky purple colour. Violet, star anise, blackberry, black pepper, cherry, and lifted florals on the nose. Really intense and dense on the palate. This may be my favourite Petite Syrah I’ve ever had – nicely balanced, fresh, high acid and quite a pretty nose alongside all that structure. High, chewy tannin. Polished. (SCJ)

Deep ruby-purple in the glass, the 2022 Petite Syrah Library Vineyard somehow manages to be as full-throttled as it is poised, leading with an explosively floral and fragrant nose of violets, lavender, lilacs, blueberries and blackberries with touches of wild mint and botanical nuances. The palate is immensely full-bodied, staining and saturated with loads of grainy tannins, vibrant acidity tucked into a deep core of opaque fruits and a long, nearly immovable finish tinged with floral perfume. Those who favor extravagance may find this to be drinking beautifully now, but it surely has many additional layers to reveal with time in the cellar.
