Tasting notes
A fascinating nose delivers pungency of bruised apple skin, curry and smoky black tea along with anticipations of the pineapple that subsequently adds invigorating tang to a juicy, appley mouthful of Riesling. There is a hint of creaminess on the palate that I more often associate with Zeltinger Sonnenuhr. The subtly sweet finish is impeccably balanced, consummately refreshing and ravishingly transparent to alkaline, stony and smoky nuances.

The 2017 Zeltinger Schlossberg Riesling Kabinett is intense, dense and complex on the impressively individual nose with its perfectly ripe and concentrated fruit and mineral aromas. Lush and piquant on the palate, this is a persistently salty, nervy and vibrant Kabinett with the ripe, lush and concentrated fruit of older vines (40 years old) on a great terroir. This is endless in its salty charm and lush fruit. A fabulous Riesling in which you could also take a cool and refreshing bath. Or, why don't you try this instead of a cocktail after a concert or the cinema? Tasted in March 2019.
Like Tevje in Fiddler on the Roof , it makes you want to break out into the song ‘Tradition’ when you get to taste this Schlossberg Kabinett. It has all the old-fashioned virtues of Mosel Kabinett, when a fragrance of apple, pear, peach and nectarine filled the air, strapping grapefruit had plenty of juice and tingling acidity, minerality dared to show some flint, and a herbaceous border was not frowned upon. Those were the days, and what is more, they are still here. (MS)
