Far less impressive than its younger sibling, the medium-bodied, superficial 2001 Pinot Noir Les Galets displays notes of sweet and sour cherries, crushed rocks, and a short, abrupt finish. How good it is to see this large operation finally take advantage of its well-placed vineyards and get serious about quality. Tel. (805) 481-1772

Good medium red. Bitter cherry, chocolate and exotic spices on the nose, along with a rooty suggestion of underbrush. Nicely concentrated, fat and lush, with flavors of cherry, red licorice and sassafras nicely firmed by integrated acidity. Spicy and sweet on the lingering finish. Very attractive pinot noir.
