Cask sample. Lightish cherry red. Fragrant with red fruits. That clever combination of delicacy and intensity without weight. Deep in fruity, mildly chewy texture and a wonderfully balanced whole with great length. (JH)

Good medium red. High-pitched aromas of raspberry, flowers, mint, fresh herbs and crushed stone. Juicy, linear and taut, offering lovely inner-mouth perfume and precision to its flavors of raspberry, cranberry and flinty saline minerality. There a touch of sweetness here compared to the Hautes Maizières but this is still classically dry. A distinctly lacy wine with a suave, saliva-inducing finish and lingering salinity. This is also a vin de combe , noted Clavelier, and the cool breezes in this site maintain elegance and low pH in the wine, not to mention a bracing character. But it's important not to overextract, he added.

The 2016 Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Les Corbeaux has yet another very pretty and seductive bouquet with perfumed red cherries, strawberry and wet limestone scents that gently unfurl in the glass. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannin and well-judged acidity. I appreciate the transparency of this Gevrey, a touch of spice and minerals on the tip of the tongue, but there is commendable weight and structure toward the finish. This is a great Les Corbeaux from Cavelier and it delivers impressive sophistication and poise.
