From a great site in the Ballard Canyon region of Santa Barbara County, the 2021 Larner has a darker core of berry fruits as well as beautiful peppery herbs, violets, graphite, and loamy earth nuances. It’s balanced, medium to full-bodied, has a pure, layered mouthfeel, and outstanding length. Drink bottles over the coming decade. The blend is 64% Syrah and 36% Grenache, aged two years in 95% new barrels.

The 2021 Larner Vineyard is a blend of 64% Syrah and 36% Grenache with a seductive mix of violet pastille, lavender candies and crushed blackberries. This is a juicy and fruit-forward effort, yet no less complex. A nervous acidity jazzes up a burst of ripe red and black berries. The spicy finish has outstanding length and shows a gentle tug of fine tannin.

The 2021 Larner Syrah/Grenache comes from vines planted in 1998. It is composed of co-fermented Syrah (64%) and Grenache (36%) and was matured for 24 months in 95% new French oak. It has pure, detailed scents of red and black currant, wild mint, violet, gravel dust and meaty undertones. The palate is surprisingly approachable, its concentrated yet nuanced fruit framed by supple, powdery tannins. It has rounded freshness and a long finish laced with new oak spices. 361 cases were made.
