Score 89/100 · Stephen Tanzer, Vinous, Nov 2011

Medium red with a touch of amber at the edge; less bright than the 2008. Musky, lower-toned aromas of vague red fruits, underbrush and vanilla. Then more complex and more open in the mouth, with sweet, round flavors of red berries and flowers. Mouthfilling without coming across as heavy. Finishes slightly dry, with fine, dusty tannins and a light acid impression. Does this wine have enough verve to support an extended evolution in bottle?

Gorgeous, knock-out aromas emerge from the 2007 Barbaresco Rabajà. Ripe, candied cherries, flowers and minerals emerge seamlessly in the glass, revealing gorgeous inner perfume. In 2007 the Rabajà possesses a touch more textural richness and body than is typically the case, but without abandoning what remains a classic, mid-weight style. This is a terrific showing from Cortese.

Barbaresco. Very pale ruby. Herbal, perhaps a touch of farmyard and hints of strawberry jam. Very closed palate, with compact cherry and strawberry fruit. Shows great promise. Grainy and slightly restless tannin at the moment. (WS)
