Score 90/100 · Drink 2015-2020, Neal Martin, Wine Advocate, Mar 2015

The 2012 Pinot Noir Bella Vida Vineyard comes from around 15-year-old vines on volcanic soils. It has a very sensual, generous bouquet that caresses the senses with pure kirsch, cranberry and pomegranate aromas that are well defined and quite Burgundian (think Volnay more than Pommard.) The palate is medium-bodied with a gently but insistent grip on the entry. There is just a slight tinniness infusing the red fruit, but there is an appealing linearity and focus, while the finish is crisp and slightly autumnal. There's is plenty of character here, though I would be inclined to broach this over the next 4-5 years rather than much longer.

Brilliant ruby. Black raspberry, cherry-cola, lavender pastille and vanilla on the powerfully scented nose, with Asian spice and mineral notes building in the glass. Supple, expansive and alluringly sweet dark berry and spicecake flavors show excellent depth and are lifted by gentle acidity, which adds clarity and bite. Emphatically fruity and focused on the finish, which is framed by velvety tannins that merge smoothly into the wine's plush fruit.
