Score 17/20 · Drink 2023-2030, Tamlyn Currin, jancisrobinson.com, Jul 2022

Full bottle 1,381 g. Not nearly as grippy and dark as the 2018, but still a strong contrast with most of their other 2019 reds. More savoury spice, cigar and oak influence. Rugged spice-stippled red fruit with a cairn of storm-weathered stones at its heart. The tannins are more lenient than they were when I tasted the 2018, more pliant, less rigidly obstructive. They feel like fine-brewed Darjeeling tea, announcing their quiet strength and structure with dignity. This is so much more ready to communicate than the 2018 was – so much more ready to tell its story. (TC)

A perfumed nose of sour cherries, wild strawberries, redcurrants, rhubarb, leaves, bark and sweet spices. Medium-bodied with fine, tightly knit tannins and bright acidity. Precise and harmonious. Very fine, savory and seamless with layers of wild berries, spices and a touch of cocoa. Vibrant, lengthy finish. Better from 2025.
