Tasted out of bottle, the 2014 Cote de Tablas (44% Grenache, 36% Syrah, 12% Counoise and the rest Mourvedre) reveals a vibrant ruby/purple color as well as notes of kirsch, blackberries, crushed flowers and sappy herbs. Medium-bodied, layered and with outstanding purity, this is a no-brainer purchase that can be drunk today with plenty of pleasure, or cellared for 7-8 years.

Bright ruby. Mineral-accented red fruit liqueur scents are complemented by suggestions of white pepper and candied flowers. Fleshy, seamless and gently sweet on the palate, offering juicy cherry and raspberry flavors underscored by a smoky mineral quality. Shows excellent clarity and spicy lift on the finish, which is given shape by smooth, harmonious tannins. The Grenache component is really showing itself right now.

Deep red. Vibrant raspberry and floral pastille scents, plus a smoky mineral element that adds vivacity. Silky and sweet on the palate, offering lively red fruit and cracked pepper flavors and a late suggestion of candied lavender. The floral note repeats on the lingering, gently tannic finish.

Incorporating more Syrah in 2014 (Syrah excelled in the vintage), the 2014 Cote de Tablas is a stunner that over delivers. Juicy, fruit-loaded and medium to full-bodied, with tons of ripe raspberry, violets, spice and floral notes, this rocking Rhone blend has beautiful purity and more grip and structure than its humble price point would have you believe. It will drink well for 7-8 years.
