There's only one barrel of the 2019 Volnay 1er Cru Les Caillerets, but it's one of the high points of the range, soaring from the glass with notes of peonies, orange rind, wild berries and raw cocoa. Medium to full-bodied, layered and ethereal, it's long and mineral, with bright acids and a saline finish.

Cask sample. Particularly transparent crimson. Muted but intriguing nose. Really quite sharp and bitter on the front palate but with real Volnay delicacy of texture. Very flattering fruit on the persistent finish. Quite a smart wine! (JR)
With the 50% whole bunch fruit, the 2019 Volnay Les Caillerets 1er Cru has one of the most captivating bouquets from Glantenay with red cherries, redcurrant and rose petal aromas, very harmonious and focused. The palate is medium-bodied with fine grain tannins and a well judged bead of acidity. This is very expressive of its terroir and having tasted Lafarge’s own Caillerets on the preceeding visit, I would say this is almost as good. Wonderful - Glantenay’s pick of his own wines this vintage.
