Bright garnet. A sweep of red fruits on the front palate. Then sandy tannins. Rather appealing but without any burgundian subtlety! A bit simple. But fun. (JR)

The 2021 Pinot Noir Estate Vineyard oozes character. Dark, seamless and so alluring, the Estate captures all the signatures of Fort Ross-Seaview in its intensely mineral, savory personality. Black cherry, plum, lavender, licorice, menthol and black pepper all run through this super-expressive Pinot from Failla.

A semi-opaque red, the 2021 Pinot Noir Estate offers lots of ripe mixed berry and blue fruits as well as notes of candied flowers, loads of graphite and dark stone, and well-balanced spice. Full-bodied on the palate, with ripe, sweet tannins, it’s the fullest bodied of these wines from Failla. Another exceptional wine from Ehren Jordan, it will certainly benefit from another few years in bottle before drinking 2025-2040. Since Failla’s first vintage in 1998, Ehren Jordan has been focused on producing exceptional cool-climate Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, and Syrah using biodynamic farming practices. Today, Failla has 11 acres of estate vines and has steadily acquired key vineyard sources from the Occidental Ridge, Hirsch, Peay, Savoy, and Platt vineyards. More recently, they have been expanding north to Oregon, where they are now getting fruit from the Seven Springs Vineyard in the Eola-Amity Hills of the Willamette Valley. They have also purchased an Oregon winery, Patton Valley Vineyards in Gaston, as well as 30 acres of vineyard land in the Laurelwood District on sandy, windblown basalt soils.
