Score 90/100 · Stephen Tanzer, Vinous
Dark blackish-ruby. Riper and more complex in aroma than the Taurasi: plum jam, chocolate, coffee and a light game element. Sweet plum fruit, tar, toasted wood and leather on the palate, and a mineral aspect on the finish. Solid and built to last. The name of the wine refers to the book on the natural sciences written by Pliny the Elder, who died while observing the eruption of Mount Vesuvius in 79 A.D.
