Score 88/100 · Drink 1999-2016, Robert Parker, Aug 1995
I found Jayer-Gilles' 1993s to be mixed in quality. The overall style is one of low PHs, tart, high acids, and tough tannin. In the finest wines there is enough concentration of ripe fruit to balance out the structural components. The Nuits St.-Georges Les Damodes reveals a strong whiff of wet stones and crushed black-raspberries. There are gobs of fresh acidity, high tannin, and a sinewy, compact feel in the mouth in spite of the ample quantities of sweet red and black fruits. I admired its vibrancy, purity, and tightly knit personality. Cellar it for 4-6 years and drink it over the following 10-15. Patience will be a virtue for Jayer's 1993s.
