Tasting notes
Full bottle 1,262 g. 70% Sangiovese and 30% Cabernet Sauvignon. Two vineyards at 180 m and south-facing. Harvested by hand. Soft pressing by feet only. Fermentation with indigenous yeasts in open 30-hl wooden vats. Aged 16 months in 500-litre oak barrels and 18 months in bottle. Certified organic and biodynamic. Bricky garnet, more evolved than the 2019. The extra evolution here has made this even more seductive on the nose, with a senescent fruit sweetness that is balanced by a tangy note of dried cherries, also savoury and a bit leathery. Much more Sangiovese dominated than Cabernet, it seems, at least in the aroma. On the palate, a good deal smoother than the 2019 and fully ready to drink, though again no rush. Rather gentle on the long finish. (JH)

The 2018 Veneroso is bold, punchy and super-expressive. Sweet pipe tobacco, cedar, leather, dried herbs and menthol lend notable aromatic complexity to this 70% Sangiovese and 30% Cabernet Sauvignon blend. A closing burst of dark red Sangiovese fruit punctuates the finish. This is such a classy wine.
