The 2016 de Gironville lacks fruit on the nose – dour and rather serious. The palate is fleshy and ripe, but monotone without seeming to engage on the finish. Tasted at the Cru Bourgeois tasting in London.

50% Cabernet Sauvignon, 40% Merlot, 10% Petit Verdot. Something quite gamey on the nose. Dry fruit with soft tannins but skeletal body that needs more internal organs to give balance. (RH)

45% Cabernet Sauvignon, 45% Merlot, 10% Petit Verdot. Sister to Ch Belle-Vue. Dark crimson with a healthy gloss. More focus, freshness and some vegetation on the nose. Far from fat but very sophisticated. Lively and long term. Lots of ripe tannin and really sophisticated. Big and bloody as well as minerally/sucky stony. Well done! (JR)
