Score 89/100 · Drink 2020-2027, Antonio Galloni, Vinous, Mar 2020

The 2017 Cérons is dense, powerful and savory, with striking aromatic complexity and a good bit of nuance. Gravel, red plum, dried flowers, tobacco and cedar give the Cerons quite a bit of aromatic savoriness. Pliant and racy in the glass, the 2017 possesses terrific depth and tons of character. This is such a pretty and expressive wine.

The 2017 de Cérons has a simple nose that feels a little green at the moment, a touch of dustiness on the nose. The palate is medium-bodied with raw tannins, a little hollow and showing a lack of substance on the finish.

The 2017 de Cérons has a perfumed, floral, almost Margaux-like bouquet with fine definition. The palate is medium-bodied with sappy red and black fruit laced with pencil lead and black pepper, nicely balanced on the finish with plenty of freshness. This Graves has produced a decent 2017 that should give several years of drinking pleasure.

They lost 50% of their entire crop, only the vines near the house, closer to the Garonne, were untouched. ‘For the first time since we bought the business, I was afraid’, says owner Caroline Perromat. She doesn’t like pouring this wine so young. Gorgeous but delicate fragrance that is both citrus – grapefruit and clementine – but also with a fine mineral/stony quality that I rarely find on sweet white Bordeaux. Clear as a bell, taut and fresh, so much so that there is a sort of dry quality to the finish even though it is sweet. Succulent, pure and long. Mouth-watering and all in embryo. Likely to be GV .
