Tasting notes
The Nicolis 2013 Amarone della Valpolicella Classico Ambrosan (with 8,000 bottles released) has a pretty bouquet with some budding tertiary complexity that adds to a dark core of black fruit and spice. This wine offers good intensity, all pushed forward by rich texture and a forceful 16% alcohol content. The appassimento, or fruit drying, period last three months after the harvest.

Depths of crushed black cherries, plums, autumnal spice and sweet herbs define the 2013 Amarone della Valpolicella Classico Ambrosan. This is dense and rich on the palate, with velvety waves of mocha-infused red and black fruits complicated by balsamic spices and fine-grained tannins that slowly saturate. The 2013 tapers off like a black hole of structure, leaving hints of mocha and salted licorice to linger. This is a powerful vintage of Ambrosan. Extended cellaring will be required to unlock all its hidden depths.
