Score 90/100 · Drink 2006-2014, Robert Parker, Aug 2004

While this offering is not a Rhone Ranger, I am including it because it is a superlative effort from Foxen. Impressive, but backward is the 2001 Cabernet Sauvignon Vogelzang Vineyard. A dense ruby/purple color is followed by aromas of black fruits, licorice, smoke, tobacco leaf, and black currants. Spicy, with great fruit on both the attack and mid-palate, medium to full body, and moderately high tannin, this beautifully made Cabernet will benefit from several more years of bottle age, and keep for at least a decade. It is good to see some wineries tame Bordeaux varietals in Santa Barbara. Tel. (805) 937-4251
