Score 90/100 · Drink 2024-2035, Monica Larner, Wine Advocate, Mar 2023

The Col di Lamo 2018 Brunello di Montalcino is a full-bodied Sangiovese with thick layering and a velvety texture. There is abundant black cherry, ripe fruit, toasted almond and grilled herb. The effect is rich and even a bit monotone or heavy. There is a hint of bitterness connected to the tannins, and the wine covers the palate like a thick blanket. Production is 20,000 bottles.

Violets, lilac, roses and lavender; the 2018 Brunello di Montalcino is a veritable florist shop on the nose. It’s soft-textured, almost juicy on the palate, with a mix of tart wild berries and savory herbal tones both energized and sweetened by vibrant acidity. This echoes with nuances of licorice and black currants, while a gentle staining of tannins adds youthful poise. A short stay in the cellar will be necessary to fully unlock the 2018’s undeniably pretty nature.
