Score 93/100 · Drink 2017-2028, Antonio Galloni, Vinous, Jan 2015

Dark red cherries, plums, lavender and sweet spices make a hugely positive first impression in the 2013 Zinfandel Jolene's Vineyard. Violets, smoke, mint and darker stone fruits develop in the glass, all supported by veins of bright acidity and tannin, both of which help convey freshness. This old-vine site on Olivet Road confers tons of pure personality.

The 2013 Zinfandel Jolene’s Vineyard also comes from head-pruned vines over 100 years of age. It spends 8-9 months in 28% new French oak before being bottled unfined and unfiltered. A potentially outstanding effort, it is somewhat closed and tart acids dominate its raspberry and red and black cherry flavor profile. Medium to full-bodied with heady alcohol, it should drink well between 2015 and 2023.
