The 2015 Monthélie 1er Cru Sur La Velle had a tight-fisted bouquet that refused to unfurl with aeration (although this is not necessarily a bad thing at this primordial stage—good things come to those that wait). The palate is medium-bodied with crisp tannin, well-judged acidity, much more finessed than the aromatics imply with a gentle, caressing, white pepper tinged finish that is a treat. Give this a couple of years in bottle if you can.

Mid cherry. Subtle dark-red fruits. Seems a bit tough at the moment, highly structured by the dry but fine tannins. Fresh but rather shy fruit. Chewy finish. (JH)
