Tasting notes
The Fallers' 2006 Gewurztraminer Cuvee Laurence perpetuates the unexpected themes of juicy generosity, minerality and spice set by their other wines of this grape and vintage. Litchi, cardamom, and rose petal aromas are joined by further brown spices on the palate. The sense of salinity is stimulatingly woven into this wine's subtly sweet finish, though one does not have quite the sense of transparency to diverse mineral nuances as in the corresponding Cuvee Theo. I would expect this to drink well for the next 3-4 years. This year, Domaine Weinbach will receive its official certification as organic and biodynamic growers. The Fallers did well in the difficult 2006 vintage - especially with those Gewurztraminer harvested before botrytis gained the upper hand - and with good reason expressed elation over the vibrancy and refinement that characterizes most of 2007s. Enticing, clean aromas of yellow fruits, smoke and spices. Sweet, supple and rich; not especially complex but suaver than the Theo, with flavors of yellow fruits, honey and wildflowers. Finishes fairly firm but not dry.
