Tasting notes
Coming from the Stoney Vine Vineyard in the Walla Walla Valley, the 2020 Tempranillo Wonderful Nightmare reveals a ruby/plum hue as well as complex aromatics of red plums, smoked herbs, tobacco, and sandalwood, with some classic Rocks funkiness coming through with time in the glass. Nicely balanced, medium to full-bodied, and elegant, with fine tannins, it’s a pretty, perfumed, complex, satisfying Tempranillo that should evolve for a decade.

Made from a mix of Rocks and Les Collines fruit, the 2020 Wonderful Nightmare is juicy on the nose, with dusty cherry and black raspberry notes and bright red florals. Medium-bodied, the wine offers a firm tannic edge that grips and narrows through the finish, showing that the Tempranillo loses steam, turning more astringent over time.
The 2020 Wonderful Nightmare mixes spiced tangerine with sour cherry and dried flowers to create its tantalizing spicy bouquet. It's silky and pliant yet understated, as this washes across the palate with blue and purple-toned liquid florals. A bit of acidity could help here, as the 2020 finishes a bit dry with a fine web of silty tannins. The Wonderful Nightmare is a blend of 90% Tempranillo and 10% Syrah that's fermented with about 40% whole clusters.
