Score 95/100 · Drink 2022-2027, Antonio Galloni, Vinous, Jan 2021

The 2019 Old Vine White Wine Heinstein Vineyard is another dazzling white in this range. It emerges from a site in Sonoma Valley, just outside the Moon Mountain AVA, that is notable for being planted with a Riesling-based field blend. The Arnot-Roberts Old Vine White Wine is sourced from blocks that are predominantly Riesling, but include a range of other varieties, which virtually guarantees varying levels of ripeness in the fermenters. That, in turn, results in striking complexity and dimensions of flavor that can be incredibly alluring, as they are here. Exotic, perfumed and beautifully layered, the Old Vine White possesses notable richness and nuance from start to finish. Soaring floral notes, green orchard fruit and mint are some of the many aromas and flavors that emerge over time. Ultimately, though, it is the wine’s sense of balance and poise that stand out most.
