Score 92/100 · Drink 2011-2021, Jay S Miller, Wine Advocate, Oct 2011

The 2009 Pinot Noir Shea Vineyard shows the expressive aromatics of this grand cru site. Exotic spices, sandalwood, incense, cassis, and black cherry notes compose the bouquet of this deep, structured, lengthy offering. It will provide enjoyment for another decade. Veteran vigneron Lynn Penner-Ash had just celebrated a milestone birthday prior to my visit and, like her wines, she appeared to be evolving gracefully. The current collection includes two white wines. www.pennerash.com

Bright ruby. Powerful aromas of black raspberry, candied violet and cola, with an oak spice nuance adding vivacity. Rich but lively in the mouth, offering sappy, palate-staining dark berry, cherry-vanilla and spicecake flavors. Finishes smooth and long, leaving floral and vanilla notes behind. This could stand up to strongly seasoned red meats.
