The Syrah-dominated 2016 Syrah Roasted Slope incorporates a whopping 8% Viognier and was raised in 20% new French oak. Its deep ruby/purple color is followed by a ripe, sexy wine that has loads of black raspberry and currant fruits, bacon fat, and olive tapenade aromas and flavors, medium to full body, a rounded, silky texture, and ripe tannin. It's a beautiful, layered, elegant wine that can be drunk today with pleasure or cellared for a decade.

Bottled just a few weeks ago, the 2016 Roasted Slope is a dense, powerful wine. Blood orange, red plum, cherry and mint are some of the many notes that flesh out in this bold, super-delicious Syrah from Andrew Murray. The 7% Viognier adds attractive aromatic top notes to round things out. The 2016 packs a serious punch, that much is obvious, but it also needs time to unwind. Even so, it is a positively stellar wine. Even just the few weeks that passed between my two tastings of the 2016 were enough to show that it is a fabulous wine. Roasted Slope is a barrel selection taken from Watch Hill and Alisos.
