Tasting notes
The 2021 Camerata is a blend of 80% Cabernet Sauvignon, 10% Cabernet Franc and 10% Merlot from the Cara Mia Vineyard. It has pure aromas of black cherry and blackcurrant, cigar box, wild fennel, violet and compelling graphite-like mineral tones. The full-bodied palate offers concentrated fruit with Goldilocks ripeness. It’s structured by dusty tannins and fireworks of fresh acidity and has a long, perfumed finish.

The 2021 Camerata is dusty and youthfully coy, slowly evolving with an array of dried roses, cedar dust and red currants. Surprisingly juicy and energetic, the 2021 displays silky textures propelled by racy acidity. A saturation of primary fruit adds tension and poise toward the close. This finishes grippy and long yet maintains grace. Chalky mineral tones and hints of lavender resonate throughout the glass. Patience is required, yet will also be rewarded.
The 2021 Cabernet Sauvignon Cara Mia Vineyard (100% Cabernet Sauvignon) reveals a semi-opaque ruby hue as well as perfumed, lifted notes of candied red fruits, minty herbs, flowers, and spicy oak. It’s medium-bodied on the palate and has a soft, supple, charming character, ripe tannins, and good overall balance. It clearly lacks a touch of depth and concentration, yet I love its charming, balanced, complex style. It should keep for a decade. Cadence Winery was founded in 1998 by Ben and Gaye Smith, and they focus on Red Mountain fruit, primarily from their Cara Mia Estate Vineyard. The wines are never the biggest or richest in the region, yet they shine for their complexity and balance. They also age beautifully.
