Score 91/100 · Drink 2017-2023, Antonio Galloni, Vinous, Sep 2017

The 2015 Chardonnay Hapgood plays in the tropical end of the flavor profile, with racy fruit, oily texture and tons of density. This is the most obviously ripe and overt of the Brewer-Clifton Chardonnays.

The 2015 Chardonnay Hapgood has a lovely savory/nutty nose of almonds and cashews with a core of muskmelon, apricots and allspice. Medium-bodied, it delivers a rasping line of invigorating acidity—cutting through the densely packed flavors beautifully—and finishes with a lively citrus peel lift. 95 cases were made.

The 2015 Chardonnay Hapgood comes from a site just across the road from the Machado Vineyard and consists of slightly deeper, richer soils. It offers slightly more tropical notes of pineapple, buttered citrus, white flowers and cream corn. It’s rich, voluptuously textured, deep and packed with fruit and texture, all while staying balanced and pure. It’s another sensational white.
