Tasting notes
A serious Petit Sirah, the 2009 Ridge Petite Sirah Lytton Estate is 100% destemmed Petit Sirah that was aged for 15 months in French oak. Showing an inky purple/black color, as well as brooding aromas of black and purple fruits, violets, serious minerality, dark chocolate, and tar on the nose, this beauty starts out dense and compact on the first night, but opens up on the second night and hints at its ultimate potential with additional complexity and nuance. Medium to full-bodied on the palate, with superb balance and focus, a detailed, precise texture, and loads of rich fruit, this beauty needs a good 3-4 years in the cellar, but should evolve and age gracefully for 12-15 years or more. This is textbook, beautifully done Petite Sirah and it shows uncommon balance and finesse.
