Tasting notes
Only 360 500ml bottles of the 1997 Tokay-Pinot Gris Rangen de Thann Clos St. Theobald Selection de Grains Nobles were produced. This extraordinary nectar has lively aromas reminiscent of smoky minerals awash in sweet peach juice. Its medium-to-full-bodied core is penetrating, expansive, and layered with abundant apricots, peaches, raspberries, stones, chalk, pineapples, candied limes, and cherries. Well-balanced, it is the essence of Pinot Gris. Moreover, this wine has the capacity to age for 30+ years. Importer: Peter Weygandt, Weygandt-Metzler, Unionville, PA; tel (610) 486-0800.

Vibrant aromas of roasted grain, apricot and peach. Supersweet (130 g/l) and viscous but with terrific cut thanks to powerful, penetrating acidity (but only about 10 grams per liter, vs. an incredible 14 in the '95 version of this wine). Finishing flavor mounts and expands for minutes on the explosive aftertaste.
