The 2019 Brunello Di Montalcino is a bright red brick color and is pretty and layered with aromas of licorice, fresh medicinal herbs, black cherries, and mushroomy earth. The palate is savory and structured, with a spine of mouthwatering acidity and notes of spiced orange and tea leaf on the finish. It's a classically-styled Brunello with mineral undercurrents of iron-rich earth to drink over the coming 10-12 years.

Extremely perfumed with flowers, cherries, dark earth and bark. Some black truffle. Medium body. Fine tannins that are polished, yet firm. Slightly chewy at the end. A refined yet structured young Brunello. Special selection from here. Needs four or five years to come around. Try after 2027.

The Sesta di Sopra 2019 Brunello di Montalcino is very generous and ripe with plush dark fruit, spiced brandy, blackberry liqueur and crème de cassis. There is an actively tannic component that is grippy and drying. It practically sucks the air out of your mouth, and I'm not confident that it will ever fully integrate. For that reason, I feel this wine is not fully balanced. Production is 4,500 bottles.

The 2019 Brunello di Montalcino is flat-out stunning, wafting up from the glass with a bouquet that blends minty herbs and a dusting of cocoa with sweet spice and blackberries. This sweeps across the palate with textures of pure silk, ushering in waves of polished red fruits and orange as rosy inner florals form toward the close. While tannic and classically dry, the 2019 maintains a lovely inner freshness, leaving a pleasantly bitter tinge and salted licorice notes to taper off slowly. This is a fabulous showing from Sesta di Sopra and an excellent representation of Castelnuovo dell'Abate terroir.
