The 2015 Mazoyeres Chambertin Grand Cru has a lifted bouquet with dark cherry and mulberry scents, just a little loose-knit at the moment. The palate is medium-bodied with chewy tannin, a little uncouth at the moment (especially compared to the Charmes-Chambertin), but there is good grip on the finish. Give this 4-5 years to mellow.

Picked on 16 September. Very dark. Animal notes and real drama. Polish and not quite the freshness of some other Jean-Marie Fourrier grands crus. But it’s certainly grand cru quality. (JR)
Good medium red. Wild if closed nose conveys medicinal and minty quality. Concentrated, dry and saline; slightly hard-edged and less classy than most of the foregoing crus. Boasts excellent energy and subtle persistence but the tannins are a bit chunky, even dry-edged, in the early going. This will need time in bottle to expand.

Domaine Fourrier is located in the village of Gevrey-Chambertin. The estate has been run by Jean-Marie Fourrier since 1994, and has rapidly become one of the village’s most fashionable names, known for producing pure and transparent Pinot Noir.
