Full bottle 1,412 g. Hand-picked and 'rigorously sorted' grapes. Aged 24 months in French barriques (17% new). Bottled unfined after a coarse filtration. Mid crimson, pale rim. More intense nose than the 2022 with some sweetness. Gentle, round fruit but less obviously Syrah than the 2022. Salty finish after satin-textured fruit and some power. This could stand up to quite powerful foods but needs time. Clean as a whistle. Very different from the 2022 but just as good. Although it's less alcoholic it tastes more powerful! (JR)

The 2021 Syrah leads with dried herbs and blood, raspberry pip, a hint of licorice and star anise, white pepper and crushed shells. In the mouth, the tannins are so ultra fine, meaning the wine speaks the same language as Pinot Noir and is silky, bloody, pulverized and finely milled, with garden roses in abundance. A beautiful wine, it's as distinct as it is detailed. There is a gentle splay of medicinal herbs (arnica, mint and the like) through the finish. 12.5% alcohol, sealed under natural cork.

Full, generous and silken, the 2021 Syrah is a sheer delight. The tannins are mellow and provide the lightest of holds, as if it were a Pinot Noir. This hails from a relatively marginal climate for Syrah, resulting in a wonderfully refreshing finish of medium length with fragrances of cherry, plum, delicate spice and smoky bacon.
