Score 93/100 · Drink 2025-2036, Stephen Tanzer, Vinous, Mar 2017

Bright red with ruby tones. Pure, perfumed scents of cherry, red licorice and minerals. Delivers a superb combination of sweetness, clarity and cut but this wine is almost painfully backward today in spite of its obvious depth of fruit and mineral flavor. Forey noted that the tannins worry him but today I find more fruit intensity here than the Echézeaux. Clearly, this Clos Vougeot will require patience.

(13. 25% alcohol; 40% vendange entier ; 80% new oak): Bright, full red. Black cherry, licorice and a hint of bitter chocolate on the nose, lifted by violet and fresh herbs. Concentrated, tactile, salty and uncompromising; a powerful, mineral-driven wine with fruit currently in the deep background. Finishes very tight and tannic. Forey's two grand crus will need at least eight years of cellaring.
