Tasted blind. Ruby garnet colour. Leathery red fruit on the nose. Quite plump and round on the palate for the vintage, with seductively spicy fruit at the core. Still fresh in acidity, there is fine balance between the sweet and savoury elements in this wine. If anything, slightly too much oak spice on the finish for now, but this should settle with a few years in bottle. (TP)

Just as it was from barrel, the 2017 La Fleur de Gay is a rich, potent wine with dense, unctuous fruit, heavy oak and torrefaction notes. This is a very good wine in the more modern style of Pomerol. It is perhaps a big style - a bit compact, and yet it has personality and character.
Medium to deep garnet-purple colored, the 2017 La Fleur de Gay opens with scents of tar, rubber and new leather, giving way to a core of baked black and red plums, blackberry compote and licorice. Medium-bodied, the palate has plenty of energetic back fruit with ripe, rounded tannins and lovely freshness, finishing earthy.
The 2017 La Fleur de Gay has an attractive bouquet with raspberry and strawberry fruit, mixed with scents of black tea and a hint of chestnut. The palate is medium-bodied with fine grain tannins, good acidity with a slightly earthy, minty finish that just lacks that final flourish. But overall, a decent Pomerol to drink over the next 12 to 15 years.
