Score 93/100 · Drink 2027-2036, Angus Hughson, Vinous, Nov 2022

This 2018 Shiraz Viognier shows impressive richness and generosity of fruit. Already expressive, it delivers dense aromas of blackcurrant, black pepper and dried herbs. A powerful and muscular palate follows, thanks to firm tannins that shape a long, embryonic finish. It’s a hearty style that needs a little time to unwind.

94% Shiraz, 6% Viognier, co-fermented. 28% whole-bunches. Succulent black fruit with both rich jamminess and lifted perfume, with both piquant and sweet spice. Beautifully tight tannins that give a finely brushed texture to the finish, and effortless acidity keeping it fresh. Savoury, meaty palate with great length and intensity, showing a mere fraction of the complexity to come. (RH)

Incredibly complex aromas of baking spices, fresh red fruit and a fine and elegant, floral edge, as well as red cherries, raspberries and red plums. This is phenomenal, so precise and concentrated with such detail and power, delivered with elegance and precision. The palate is super long. The best vintage made at Clonakilla to date! Perfection! Drink now, but better from 2026. Screw cap.
