Elegant and solar, the 2018 Chinon Coteau de Noiré reveals aromas of rose, rose petals, lead pencil, licorice and blueberries, followed by a medium to full-bodied, structured, tense and firm mid-palate with notes of spices, gentian and rose, concluding with a long, mineral and elegantly smoky finish. It’s more elegant and refined than the 2020, with a caressing texture. Hide bottles for 3-4 years and enjoy over the following years.

Single (2-ha) vineyard. Cabernet Franc on a south-facing slope. Clay-limestone soils. Vines planted 1996. Garnet hue. Dark- and red-fruit notes with a savoury edge. Ripeness of a warmer year but balanced. Tannins tight and firm. Slight graphite edge to the long finish. Needs time. Clearly some ageing potential. (JL)

From a 2.5-hectare lieu-dit , the 2018 Chinon Coteau de Noiré is light-bodied and finely woven, silky through the midpalate yet powerfully tannic, due to argilo-calcaire soils on a south-facing slope. It offers lovely mouthwatering acidity and a delightful chalky texture on the scented, smoky finish.
