2008 Mauro Terreus

The Terreus is pure Tinto Fino from a single vineyard of ancient vines, most likely over 100 years old. The 2008 Terreus has an intense, tightly coiled bouquet with blackberry, boysenberry, fresh fig and blueberry all with fine delineation and focus. The palate is medium-bodied with filigree tannins. The balance and poise are immediately noticeable, the texture silky smooth and focused with notes of black cherry and espresso lingering on the aftertaste. This is a classy wine, albeit one with a price. Drink 2013-2022. Bodegas Mauro is owned by Alberto and Eduardo Garcia. Their vineyards are predominantly located on the left bank of the Duero River, although due to historical local politics their sites are excluded from the DO of Ribera del Duero. They have apparently come to terms with that and are, of course, able to work without the restrictions imposed by authorities.
