The 2012 Chianti Classico Riserva is bold, immediate and juicy, but still very much in the mid-weight style that is typical of these wines. Succulent red cherry, plum, spice, rose petal, new oak and menthol notes give the 2012 its round, caressing personality. The 2012 is quite open today and should continue to drink well for a number of years.

Barberino Val d’Elsa. Developing mid ruby with a narrow orange rim. Already quite developed on the nose with lots of tobacco leaf, tar and quite a bit of oak. Looks as though this spent much too long in oak and the fruit is in hiding. (WS)
