The 2013 Grenache was grown in a dry season, with yields 20% down on average. The wine has less exotic spice notes than the 2012, but more power and persistence in lockstep. This is a beautiful wine, one that is today, 12 years from its harvest, showing to be restrained, elegant and almost closed. Ready for its long future ahead, this is superb. 15% alcohol, sealed under screw cap.

Bright ruby-red. Sexy, highly perfumed red berry preserve, potpourri and Asian spice scents, with a smoky nuance building in the glass. Silky-sweet and precise on the palate, with vibrant raspberry liqueur and floral pastille flavors showing a suave blend of depth and vibrancy. Displays a Pinot-like light touch, finishing with excellent focus and gentle tannins that sneak up slowly.

Really quite pale ruby colour. Rich, porty nose – dried fruits and cherry liqueur. A real juice-bomb on the palate, with piquancy that is half spice and half alcohol. Attractive perfume on the finish, but it struggles to overcome the heat and weight. (RH)
